The new year is around the corner, and Oregon smokers will be paying more for both tobacco products and electronic cigarettes, according to KATU.

Back in the the November general election, voters approved Measure 108, which will raise tax on these products. Now, the changes will go into effect on January 1, 2021.

The cigarette tax will increase by $2 per pack of 20 and $2.50 per pack of 25. For inhalant delivery systems, such as vapes and e-cigarette products, they will be taxed at a rate of 65% of the wholesale purchase price.

"Little cigars, collectively weighing 3 pounds or less per 1,000, must be sold in sealed packages of at least 20. The packs will be taxed as cigarettes and will require an Oregon cigarette tax stamp," KATU wrote. The cap on cigar taxes will increase from 50 cents to $1.

Taxes on these products will go toward health care coverage for low-income families, including mental health services and public health programs.

Oregon made headlines last month for another measure they voted on: the Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act. Not only did the law decriminalize hard drugs, but it seeks to help those negatively affected by drug addiction.
