People across the Tucson area reported hearing a series of loud booms and feeling the earth shaking around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29th.
Whether it was an earthquake, UFO, or something else, Arizonans are baffled.
Experts have weighed in on the subject and have said that there was no earthquake to cause the boom.
Susan Black, global seismology and tectonics professor at UArizona, told KVOA, "I checked the Tucson seismic station and there is not an earthquake at or a little before 11 a.m. today (Tuesday). It is likely something else- a sonic boom of some sort."
News 4's Chief Meteorologist Matt Brode stated that the closest earthquake observed was in Mammoth Caves, California, which is more than 700 miles away form Tucson.
Other residents thought maybe the boom came from the nearby Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, however, officials at the base said that there were not any air crafts capable of causing a sonic boom there at the time.
The base wrote on Twitter, "We are aware of the reported loud boom in Tucson this morning. But we did not have any aircraft capable of breaking the sound barrier flying at that time."
