A former volunteer for the Folsom High School girls' basketball program was reportedly arrested on 12 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child.

The Sacramento Sherrif's Department announced that 59-year-old David Phillip Gallegos was taken into custody on Tuesday, December 29.

All 12 charges involve victims under the age of 14 and four involve the alleged use of force, violence, or duress according to authorities.

Gallegos worked as a volunteer and independent contractor for the girls' basketball program at Folsom High School until 2018. In addition, he ran a private basketball clinic and performed other volunteer work for the San Juan Unified School District.

However, CBS13 reports that the Folsom Cordova Unified School District denies that Gallegos was ever a volunteer for any program or class.

According to the district, volunteers must go through an approval process that was not completed by Gallego. In addition, he would have not been allowed to use any of their sports facilities for his personal training clinic.

Detectives say Gallego's current charges are not associated with his volunteer activities.

Gallegos is currently being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on $2.5 million bail.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on Gallegos to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department's Child Abuse Bureau at (916) 874-5191.
