The commonwealth of Massachusetts will be raising minimum wage during the first day of the new year.

Mass.gov announced the commonwealth will be increasing minimum wage from $12.75 per hour to $13.50 per hour, beginning on January 1, 2021. The service rate will also increase from $4.95 per hour to $5.55 per hour, while the Premium Pay for Sunday retailer workers will decrease from 1.3% from 1.2%.

"The minimum fair wage laws and regulations address basic minimum wage and overtime," Mass.gov wrote on the webpage for the state's minimum wage program. "They also cover pay for tipped employees, reporting pay, on-duty or on-call time, travel time, and expenses. Deductions for lodging, meals, uniforms, and required wage records are also covered."

Massachusetts plans to raise its standard minimum wage and tipped minimum on January 1 of each of the next three years. The commonwealth had a standard minimum wage of $12.75 effective and a tipped minimum wage of $4.95 on January 1, 2020.

Massachusetts plans to raise its standard minimum wage to $14.25 in 2022 and $15.00 in 2023, as well as its tipped minimum wage to $6.15 in 2022 and $6.75 in 2023.

Massachusetts' minimum wage was $7.25 per hour in 2009, according to Mass.gov.
