CVS Health officials have administered the first COVID-19 vaccinations at more than 100 long-term care facilities across the state as of Wednesday (January 6).

They’re still pursuing COVID-19 vaccine administrations for residents and staff at 500 additional facilities, the company announced.

So far, pharmacists administered 5,847 doses at 103 long-term care facilities across Missouri, with 153 more locations scheduled in the next week, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the first round of vaccine doses should be completed by January 25. CVS officials will return to administer the second dose. Though CVS Health officials hope to have vaccines available in pharmacies in the coming months, the timeline is “speculative” at this time.

"Our work with long-term care facilities isn't a mass vaccination effort, quite the opposite," Larry J. Merlo, President and Chief Executive Officer of CVS Health previously said in a press release. "We're dealing with a vulnerable population that requires onsite and, in some cases, in-room visits at facilities with fewer than 100 residents on average. Despite these challenges we remain on schedule, and the number of vaccines we administer will continue to rise as more facilities are activated by the states."
