Find Out Farms in Sacramento is making sure that overflowing fruit from backyard trees don't go to waste and instead put them in the hands of families in need.

Their Community Fruit program started in 2020. The group collects fruits from people's trees in their backyards and gives away the fruit to the community in South Oak Park.

"We saw an abundance of fruit falling from trees and creating challenges with mess and pests while there is limited access for many folks to get fresh, healthy food," says the group on their website.

They hold their free fruit stand in South Oak Park once a month.

"It's huge, especially this time of the year getting that vitamin C," one member Matthew Ampersand told KCRA3. "It is really helpful and it's abundant around here. Fresh, healthy food is really important to people's diets, especially when it's a challenge to have access to it. So in like food deserts like the 95820 area code, we don't really have access to fresh produce."

The group has been around for one year and has already partnered with several different organizations in the community like Sacramento Neighbor, NorCal Resist, Community Connections 95820, and Alchemist CDC.

Despite the global pandemic, "...fruit trees are still producing and the need for healthy food is greater than ever! So we are doing all we can to address the need for harvesting and sharing fruit."
