A Bexar County Sheriff's Office lieutenant is under investigation for attending a pro-Trump rally that turned into a deadly riot in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.
Lt. Roxanne Mathai shared selfies and other photos taken outside the U.S. Capitol on her Facebook page.
“Not gonna lie.....aside from my kids, this was, indeed, the best day of my life. And it’s not over yet,” Mathai wrote in a Facebook post. As of Friday afternoon, Mathai's Facebook page was no longer public, but screenshots of her post were published by media outlets in San Antonio.
None of the photos that Mathai shared show her inside the Capitol building. Still, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar sent the photos to the FBI and D.C. law enforcement in case Mathai participated in any illegal behavior, KSAT reported.
"If she just stood by while first responders were assaulted, it would be more than just troubling, it would be downright infuriating. It makes you mad ... if someone that wears a uniform just stood there, watched and took pictures," Salazar said in a press conference on Thursday.
Mathai had a management-level position at the Bexar County jail, the San Antonio Express News reported. She has been on leave since October 2020 because of allegations that she had an inappropriate relationship with a jail inmate.
At least one Texas man has lost his job because he participated in Wednesday's riot. Goosehead Insurance announced on Thursday that Paul Davis, of Frisco, was no longer a lawyer for the company. Davis was publicly identified after he shared an Instagram video from the Capitol, the Dallas Morning News reported.
