Fans of Sex and the City were treated to some pretty epic news yesterday—the beloved series is getting the revival treatment over at HBO Max. The new show, titled And Just Like That..., is being described as the next chapter of Sex and the City. Original stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are all set to reprise their roles. Kim Cattrall, however, will not be returning.
Cattrall played fan-favorite character Samantha Jones over the course of the series' original run and two subsequent films. Though the four actresses play best friends on screen, Cattrall has taken to airing her grievances with her castmates—Parker, in particular—on social media in recent years. The 64-year-old actress even went so far as to declare she'd never return to the widely beloved franchise. Now it seems she's made good on her promise.
Parker, on the other hand, has consistently denied Cattrall's accounts of a feud between them. When Parker shared the first teaser for And Just Like That... on Instagram on Sunday (January 10), fans left comments inquiring about Cattrall's absence. "Happy to see you back but will miss Kim/Samantha," one fan wrote, to which Parker replied, "We will too. We loved her so. X"
One fan even went so far as to ask Parker if she "disliked" her former co-star. "No. I don't dislike her. I've never said that. Never would," Parker wrote. "Samantha isn't part of this story. But she will always be part of us. No matter where we are or what we do."
The Sex and the City revival will consist of 10 half-hour episodes that follow Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, and Miranda Hobbes as they navigate love and friendship in their fifties. Production for the series will begin in New York CIty later this year.
