An investigation is underway after a 56-year-old Miami Beach doctor died a little over two weeks after getting the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Local 10.

Gregory Michael, M.D., passed away on January 2, but there's no word on whether his death is related to the shot he got on December 18. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s office said they haven't determined the cause of death yet, pending results.

Michael's wife described him as "very healthy" in a Facebook post. According to his website, he was participated in fishing tournaments and is a rescue certified scuba diver. The doctor noticed severe broken blood vessels on his feet and hands after getting the shot, she claims.

"There, he was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia, which prevents blood from clotting. After two weeks of treatment... Michael had a hemorrhagic stroke caused by the lack of platelets, which took his life in a matter of minutes," journalists said.

The Centers for Disease Control for investigation got a referral to investigate the case and told Local 10 “they will evaluate the situation as more information becomes available and provide timely updates on what is known and any necessary actions.”

Pfizer-BioNTech, who manufactures COVID-19 vaccines, said they're "aware of the death of a healthcare professional 16 days after receiving a first dose." "We are actively investigating this case, but don’t believe at this time there is any direct connection to the vaccine. There have been no related safety signals identified in trials or vaccinations so far," the company said in a statement.

According to his website, Michael was in private practice in obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, which is where he was vaccinated. His wife said he was also an advocate for the vaccine.
