The Food Bank of the Rockies distributed over 100 million pounds of food throughout 2020. This is the first time the organization has ever reached that figure in its 42 year history, according to WesternSlopeNow.com.
"We've seen an entirely new level of demand for food in our communities," said President and CEO of Food Bank of the Rockies Erin Pulling. "We're serving many people who have lost their jobs and are facing food insecurity for the first time. More than 30% of the people we’re serving report never needing food assistance before this. And families and individuals who were already vulnerable have found themselves in dire need.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused job, food, and housing insecurity to spike since March of 2020.
The Colorado and Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies has had work with its Hunger Relief Partner network in order to meet these unprecedented demands.
Pulling says Feeding America is projecting that this increased need for food assistance could last for the next two years as the country continues to navigate the pandemic.
Food Bank of the Rockies continues to meet the demands in 2021 with over 800 hunger-relief partners throughout Colorado and Wyoming.
