The Greater Chicago Food Depository is making sure it’s easy to learn how to use SNAP benefits to buy groceries online.
SNAP benefits — Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — can help Chicagoans get groceries delivered at home or set aside for pick-up with Amazon, Walmart and Aldi.
Amazon offers home delivery through its Core Groceries, Pantry and Fresh programs. Walmart allows for online pick-up and online delivery, and and Aldi orders curbside pick-up and delivery, through a partnership with Instacart.
"You can use your SNAP benefits to buy groceries online! Use our guide to learn how to shop for home delivery or store pick-up through Amazon, Walmart & Aldi," the Greater Chicago Food Depository shared Wednesday (January 13).
In 2020, Illinois officials approved a pilot expansion to allow citizens who use SNAP to redeem benefits online. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) aims to add smaller, independent grocery stores to the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot, according to information from the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
