Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have “completely” stopped going to marriage counseling amid ongoing rumors of their imminent divorce, PEOPLE has learned.

Earlier this month, an insider told the outlet that Kimye had been in martial therapy in an attempt to save their estranged relationship. Now, it’s said the rapper has taken the next step to sever his marriage to his wife of six years. “He is talking to divorce lawyers this week,” a source said of West to the outlet.

This latest update on Kimye’s rocky marriage comes less than a week after Us Weekly reported that the couple’s relationship has taken a “downright toxic” turn, forcing the stars even further apart.

“Kim and Kanye had no option but to live apart in the end because the communication between them had gotten so downright toxic,” an insider told Us. “They went into the latter part of 2020 with the very best of intentions and wanted to find a way to get along when they spent time together. But it reached the point where the bickering turned to nasty blowups and confrontations, and since neither of them wanted the kids exposed to that type of hostility, they [stayed] apart.”

Due to the friction between the stars, Kardashian has remained with the couple’s children at their home in Los Angeles, whereas West has resided in Wyoming for several months. As fans know, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star and the “Black Skinheads” rapper share four children together: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.

What remained of the couple’s once-cordial visits reportedly ended in a “big fight” in early-December, which may have led to the January 5 reports of the couple’s impending divorce.

Kardashian has since enlisted divorce lawyer Laura Wasser and the couple is reportedly “in settlement talks.”
