Two airline employees were hurt — including one who was hospitalized — following an alleged altercation with three passengers trying to board a flight from Detroit to Atlanta.

The apparent attack happened after the Spirit Airlines employees asked the passengers to make sure their carry-on luggage was the appropriate size before boarding their flight, according to the New York Post and ABC News.

The incident was caught on video.

Spirit Airlines explained in a statement that the two agents “attempted to calmly defuse the situation but were physically assaulted by these passengers as they closed a door to stop them from boarding the aircraft."

"All of us at Spirit wish the agents a speedy recovery and thank them for their courage and professionalism," the statement from Spirit Airlines continues. "This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business. We will not tolerate abusive behavior of any kind and these passengers will be banned from any future travel with Spirit.”

Spirit Airlines also thanked the law enforcement officials who quickly responded and arrested two of the individuals and cited the third, all of whom remained unnamed as of Tuesday afternoon (January 19).
