A relief group from Virginia is renovating the home of a man who lost his infant grandson in North Carolina's November flooding.

Raging floods swept across areas of North Carolina in November 2020, leaving devastation and destruction in its wake. More than 30 people were rescued from rising waters, but five people were killed at the Hiddenite Family Campground, including the 1-year-old boy.

Robbie Flowers, of Hiddenite, is still grieving the death of his 1-year-old grandson, telling WSOC that he still has nightmares about losing him in the raging waters that swept through an Alexander County campsite they were in at the time. Now, however, he is grateful for the support he is receiving from a group of volunteers.

God's Pit Crew, a relief agency made of volunteers, are renovating a home for Flowers after they learned about his devastating loss. According to the news outlet, many in the group were moved at his story and wanted to do their part to help.

"When you been through something that devastating — he actually lost a grandchild in that flooding — if you can do just anything to help their life, it makes a huge difference," said Warren Johnson, a volunteer with the group.

Flowers will be allowed into the home once the group completes its work.
