With Denver counties out of Level Red on the state's COVID-19 dial, indoor attractions like museums can reopen their doors.
After a rough year, the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) will be bringing back their Free Days calendar for 2021.
The program expects to post the online calendar for the year on January 31, according to the Denver Post.
The Denver Zoo and Denver Museum of Nature & Science both have city-approved variances that will let them operate at a high capacity. Both places will be offering free days as soon as February.
"Denver Art Museum already had free days for kids (18 and under) every day. And then we have Denver Botanic Gardens doing more virtual programming — and looking at a plan for free days later in the year," SCFD's executive director Deborah Jordy told the Post.
The SCFD helps fund organizations across the Denver metro area providing over 100 free days every year.
But with uncertainty around the coronavirus and how safe it will be to reopen indoor spaces, the SCFD can't be sure what this year will look like.
Many Denver arts and culture spaces have had to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, none of the organizations that the SFCD funds have had to completely close their doors or furlough their workers, according to the Post.
The upcoming schedule for free days in 2021 is hopeful look towards the future.
"Some of these free days are happening earlier than anticipated and we’re very, very excited about that."
