Nearly 16 Million Americans Moved In 2020: How Many Came To Arizona?

In the midst of the raging global pandemic, nearly 16 million Americans decided to pack up and move.

United Van Lines conducted a study to determine which states had the most individuals moving in and out of the state.

Eily Cummings, director of corporate communications at Van Lines, stated on the website, "Each year, our United Van Lines study provides critical insights into broader migration patterns and Americans’ moving motivations."

How did Arizona compare to other states?

According to the study, Arizona was in the top five states with people moving in. It took the fifth spot and had a total inbound percentage of 61.6% with an outbound percentage of 38.4%.

The study shows that the main reason people moved into the state was for retirement, family, and job opportunities.

Here are the top ten states with the most people moving into the state, according to the study:

  1. Idaho
  2. South Carolina
  3. Oregon
  4. South Dakota
  5. Arizona
  6. North Carolina
  7. Tennessee
  8. Alabama
  9. Florida
  10. Arkansas

Here are the ten states with the most people moving out of the state:

  1. New Jersey
  2. New York
  3. Illinois
  4. Connecticut
  5. California
  6. Kansas
  7. North Dakota
  8. Massachusetts
  9. Ohio
  10. Maryland
