Here's What LeBron James Said About A Senate Bid

LeBron James isn’t setting his sights on running for office — at least not any time soon.

The NBA champion and philanthropist, of Akron, fielded questions after the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday (January 25).

Questions about whether James would run for Senate came after social media users buzzed about it earlier that day.

Some social media users posed the possibility — seriously or jokingly — of James running for the seat that will become vacant in 2022. Republican Sen. Rob Portman announced he would not seek re-election, citing “partisan gridlock” and issuing a lengthy statement explaining the decision.

“This was not an easy decision because representing the people of Ohio has been an honor,” Portman said in his statement.

So, after the Lakers-Cavs game, interviewers couldn’t help but ask James about possible political aspirations.

“No, I haven’t thought about that at all,” James clarified with a chuckle during a postgame interview. “You know, I still got a job to do here. Playing the game at a high level, I want to continue to see what I can continue to do in this beautiful game of basketball…“I haven’t even thought about political stance or being in office, and things of that nature on that side. That’s definitely not in my thinking right now.”
