Want A Slightly Used BART Car?

Take one! But like most things, there’s a catch. You’ll need to pay for the BART car’s relocation, which will cost you between $8,000 and $10,000. Some of these cars date back to the original fleet of the 1970s. BART is reaching out to museums, artists, food truck operators, restaurateurs and collectors who might want a car of their own. If you're interested, here are a few more details. In the meantime, the old cars are recycled for scrap metal, which brings in about $300 each. Here's how BART decommissions one of their old cars:
