The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that there would be possible delays from 9:00 A.M. into the evening on Wednesday, January 27, due to vehicle recovery.
The closure will allow the CDOT to recover a crashed FedEx semi-truck with two trailers from the Colorado River near Glenwood Springs, according to FOX21.
The semi crashed into the river on Sunday, January 24.
The travel alert affects eastbound Interstate 70 between Rifle and Glenwood Springs. In the tweet announcing the closure, CDOT said over-wide vehicles will have to use an alternate route.
CDOT plans on setting up a crane in the right-most lane of I-70 to remove the semi-truck. But if more space is needed for the crane, they could close all eastbound lanes.
The department's crews are attempting to remove the semi before the next storm system arrives, but they may have to continue their work on Thursday, January 28.
"If work is required on Thursday, motorists should again plan for delays for eastbound traffic coming into Glenwood Springs," said CDOT.
