A 52-year-old inmate got quite the birthday present on Monday (January 25) -- he was released from jail in Miami. Authorities said this was a mistake.

According to NBC Miami, Eduardo Cabana was released "in error," and the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department told reporters they don't know how it happened. Jail officials said they hope to find Cabana as quickly as possible. They're also investigating the early release.

“At this time, we have all resources focused on the search,” Juan Diasgranados said, who is the public affairs manager for the corrections department. “As soon as the error was discovered, the MDCR requested the assistance of our law enforcement partners to assist in locating the offender.”

Cabana was booked on multiple charges, including obstruction by a disguised person, shooting or throwing a deadly missile and criminal mischief. Records show he was also being held without bond on a probation warrant.

The 52-year-old also had prior run-ins with the law. "State criminal records show Cabana has previously faced charges including robbery with a firearm, burglary and purchasing or selling cocaine," reporters learned.

Cabana was taken back into custody later on in the week after he appeared for his online court hearing Thursday (January 28), according to reporters.
