The iconic "wedding cake house" in Carefree was engulfed in flames early Tuesday morning, causing severe damage to the large home.
ABC 15 reported that Rural Metro Fire officials received the news of the fire near Carefree Highway and Tom Darlington Drive at about 3 a.m.
KTAR News reported that the 6,000-square-foot house was empty and under renovation at the time of the fire.
A social media post from Rural Metro Fire said that the fire took crews from two cities to contain. Both Cave Creek and Carefree crews worked in the dark to get the fire under control after areas of the home collapsed, and because of its location on the mountain.
