Drunk Driver Hit Man In Crosswalk; Tried To Convince Him To Not Call Police

A man is facing DUI charges after hitting a man in a Mesa crosswalk on Monday night and then trying to convince him to not call the police.

The man told police that he has gotten drunk off of banana-flavored schnapps, reported AZ Family.

40-yea-old Jimmy Maxwell, Jr. was driving north on Gilbert Road in a white Suburban when he hit a pedestrian at Southern Avenue around 11 p.m., according to police.

At first, Maxwell kept driving, but stopped and turned around when he noticed that a witness had seen the incident.

Maxwell then allegedly told the victim that he was okay and that he didn't need to call the police.

Luckily, the man only had minor injuries.

Once officers arrived at the scene, Maxwell admitted to taking three shots of 99 Bananas, which is. banana-flavored schnapps that is 99-proof, about five hours prior to the crash.

Maxwell also claimed that someone else was driving during the incident and that he was asleep in the passenger-side seat. Police said that Maxwell claimed he woke up after the crash and switched seats with the driver to stop the SUV.

According to Investigators, Maxwell failed a field sobriety test and has a BAC of 0.106. Maxwell also had a revoked license from Tennessee. He was booked into jail on one count of aggravated DUI.
