Video captured the jaw-dropping moment a driver of a pickup truck ran over a barrier and dropped 70 feet from an interstate ramp onto a highway.

Luckily, the driver is alive.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation video showed the bizarre incident on Interstate 94, at the Zoo Interchange. It happened Saturday morning (February 6) around 9:49 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that the driver did not show signs of impairment. The driver lost control of his vehicle after driving up a snowbank, sending the truck over the barrier wall of the overpass. The pickup truck fell 70 feet into the I-94 distress lane, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office explained what happened in a statement shared on social media:

The driver was conscious and breathing and did not show signs of impairment. A preliminary investigation indicated the driver was driving on the ramp from the East to the South in the Zoo Interchange when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled up a snowbank proceeded over the barrier wall and descended 70 feet down onto the westbound I-94 distress lane. The Milwaukee Fire Department arrived on the scene and conveyed the driver to a local hospital.”

The crash shut down westbound lanes for several hours. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office warned citizens of the “serious single vehicle crash” and released an update when the lanes and ramps reopened.
