One local homeowner found himself in a very scary situation last weekend.
A mountain lion broke through a sliding glass door in the foothills of Millcreek Canyon on Saturday, reported KSL.
According to Scott Root, the outreach manager for the Division of Wildlife Resources, said that a man went to check on his family member's house and noticed it was cold inside. When he went downstairs, he saw a hole in the door and noticed some potted plants had been knocked over with bites taken out of them.
The man then saw a mountain lion bolt out of a corner and run outside through the hole in the door.
According to Root, there was no blood on the scene, so they believe the animal to be uninjured.
Jon Hughes, the homeowner, stated, "Just kind of a surreal thing. Never seen one in my life. I'm really glad it wasn't mad at me. It had no interest in me at all. It just kind of took off. It didn't even look back."
Though it isn't uncommon for mountain lions to be in Utah's foothills since deer, their main food source, are typically lower.
Root explained, "That's probably why it was down in the foothills and worked its way down into the residential area." He said he can't recall another time a mountain lion has ever broken in to someone's home like this. "It's very unusual," he said.
Miraculously, the man that discovered the animal was uninjured.
