Walmart and Sam's Club will start distributing the COVID-19 vaccine at various pharmacy locations around Colorado on Friday, February 12, according to KDVR.
Those who are currently eligible to receive the vaccine in Colorado can make an appointment online. People over the age of 65 and educators are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. You do not need to be a Sam's Club Member to register for the vaccine.
Online appointments can be made through Walmart and Sam's Club websites. If there aren't any appointments available, they suggest people keep checking the websites.
On Wednesday, February 10, Walmart announced that they were experiencing technical difficulties on the appointment website after people rushed to the site to try to make an appointment.
“The Walmart scheduling system is currently experiencing technical difficulties following a surge of appointments," the company said in a statement. "Our team is currently working to resolve the matter to have the scheduler back online as soon as possible.”
Walmart and Sam's Club prioritized stocking vaccines in their pharmacies located in underserved communities, according to KDVR.
To determine which locations would receive the vaccine, Walmart worked with the CDC and studied customer demographics, population density, COVID-19 infection rates, and access to local healthcare sources in each area.
Once they receive more vaccines, Walmart and Sam's Club will expand to other locations.
