When someone passes away, loved ones spend a lot of time going through their wills and determining what was left behind for that person's family, friends, or even their pets. One Nashville man loved his longtime furry friend so much that he included her in his will and left her with a $5 million inheritance.
Bill Dorris was a successful businessman when he passed away last year at the age of 84. Though he was unmarried, he did have one important relationship in his life: his 8-year-old border collie Lulu. When Dorris died, he had made a provision in his will that, "$5 million will be transferred to a trust to be formed upon my death for the care of my border collie Lulu."
The will states that the trust is to provide for any needs that may arise for Lulu, who will remain in the possession of Martha Burton. Burton, 88, has taken care of Lulu for years because Dorris was always on the road, according to News Channel 5.
Regardless of the trust, Burton plans to treat Lulu as her typical companion and make sure she is happy. Burton doesn't know how they could ever spend that much money and is at a loss for words about how much Dorris left for his beloved pet.
"I don't really know what to think about it to tell you the truth" said Burton. "He just really loved that dog."
According to the news outlet, a conservator will approve and reimburse Burton for Lulu's expenses. It is also unclear what is to happen with the remaining money whenever Lulu passes away.
