New-ish Texan Elon Musk has high hopes for Austin.
In an interview on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast that was released on Thursday, Musk predicted Austin is "going to be the biggest boomtown that America has seen in 50 years."
The SpaceX and Tesla CEO didn't elaborate but compared Austin to California, where he was previously living before relocating to Texas late last year.
"Austin is a bit like a mini California. I asked the (Tesla Cybertruck) team in California what’s your top choice for a U.S. factory location. The number one choice was Austin. What’s number two? There was silence," he told Rogan.
His Silicon Valley-based automobile company is current building a "gigafactory" near Austin that will manufacture the Tesla cybertruck and semi-truck once it opens in late 2021.
Musk added that he doesn't want the Texas capital to become like his former home.
"We do need to make sure that Austin does not … that people from California don’t inadvertently recreate the problems that caused them to move in the first place," he said.
The multibillionaire was very vocal about why he ditched the Golden State and previously said California was taking inventors for granted.
