200,000 Fort Worth Residents Under Boil Water Notice Until Wednesday

As temperatures across the area hit historic lows, nearly 200,000 Fort Worth residents are being told to boil their water.

The boil water notice mainly effects people living in North Fort Worth, Haslet, Keller, Lake Worth, Northlake, Roanoke, Saginaw, Southlake, Trophy Club and Westlake, according to the city of Fort Worth.

The city issued the boil water notice after power outages at raw water pump station and the Eagle Mountain Treatment Plant, which provides water for most of the city. Frozen equipment and the winter weather are also delaying crews working to restore the water pressure.

The city expects the boil water notice to be lifted by late Wednesday. Until then residents must boil their water for at least two minutes before consuming (drinking, cooking with, using to wash hands, brushing teeth, etc.).

The rolling power outages are expected to continue Tuesday throughout Fort Worth. The city has opened four warming shelters for residents without power or heat.

The shelters will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone will be screened for COVID-19 before entering. People are also being asked to bring their own blankets and food. Pets are not allowed.
