Six people had to be treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after officials learned a generator was being used in the basement of a Gladstone, Oregon, home, according to KOMO.
Crews were called to Fairfield and Columbia Way around 5:43 a.m. Tuesday (February 16). It looked like the generator was used to run several refrigerators inside the home in an effort to keep food cold, reporters said.
Four of the six people were taken to the hospital, while two were treated at the scene, according to Clackamas Fire officials. No word on their conditions as of Tuesday afternoon.
A weekend snowstorm knocked out power for Americans across the nation. While some are struggling with power outages or just trying to keep warm, officials wanted to remind people that a generator should never be used inside a home.

"Never run a motor vehicle, generator, or any gasoline-powered engine less than 20 feet from an open window, door, or vent where exhaust can vent into an enclosed area," Clackamas Sheriff wrote on Twitter.
