Some kids and parents in a local Phoenix neighborhood are heartbroken after a playground was torn down last week, reported AZ Family.

The playground was located in a north Phoenix area near Tatum Boulevard and Union Hills Drive for over 10 years.

Residents say that they are frustrated at the situation because the HOA didn't ask their opinion about the matter.

Dave Pries, a resident of the neighborhood for 14 years, said, "We didn't have an opportunity to voice our opinion. when you move into an HOA community, that is what you are expecting, community."

Pries said that the HOA board had a meeting last month, but it was closed to the public.

A letter from the management company Snow Management Services said that the playground was torn down because it was a safety hazard. According to the letter, the playground was over 14 years old and only had a 15-year life expectancy. The letter also stated that if the playground were to be repaired, it would cost up to $20,000.

Pries said, "It it needed some tune-ups, we would gladly talk about that and discussed it and seen what the costs would have been, but they didn't give us that opportunity."
