Bridgerton has cast its leading lady for season two.
According to a report from Deadline, Simone Ashley will play Kate Sharma in the sophomore season of Netflix's wildly popular Regency-era drama. She will star alongside Jonathan Bailey as the eldest Bridgerston sibling, Anthony.
While the first season Bridgerton followed the love story of Daphne Bridgerton and the Duke of Hastings, the next installment will see Anthony attempt to finally settle down himself. When Kate Sharma arrives in London, Anthony Bridgerton may finally meet his match. Those who read the book series, written by Julia Quinn, will know the upcoming season will be based on The Viscount Who Loved Me.
“Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show," Bridgerton's creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen teased onToday with Hoda & Jenna back in December. “We left him at the end of the first season at a bit of a crossroads, so I’m looking forward to jumping in and discovering how he fares on the marriage market."
Before landing the role of Kate Sharma, Ashley starred on Netflix's Sex Education, ITV's The Sister, and the third season of crime drama Broadchurch.
