Making the most of Northeast Ohio's fresh blankets of snow, hundreds took part in an epic snowball fight at Kent State University on Monday night (February 15).

KentWired, the university’s student-run news site, shared video of the crowd gathered near Taylor Hall, and of a stampede of people running as the snowball fight ensued.

It was all organized in a GroupMe of more than 1,200 people.

“TONIGHT: 300 to 500 people gathered near Taylor Hall for a snowball fight organized in a GroupMe containing over 1,200 people,” KentWired tweeted shortly before 11 p.m. The student news site followed up later: “The group started to form between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Activities ended around 11:20 p.m. when the police arrived.”

Much of Ohio — including Portage County, where Kent is located — is under a hazardous weather outlook Tuesday (February 16), according to the National Weather Service.

“Temperatures will fall to near or below zero tonight. Light winds at the onset may allow for wind chills below zero early tonight,” the National Weather Service reads.

And more snowball fights could be in store.

Officials anticipate “another low pressure system” moving through the east coast from Wednesday (February 17) through Friday (February 19), which means accumulating snowfall.
