Firefighters are battling a blaze that engulfed a huge fishing vessel at the Port of Tacoma overnight, according to sources.

The flames broke out around 11 p.m. Wednesday (February 17) in the 356-foot vessel Aleutian Falcon while it was docked in Pier 12 at Trident Seafoods. Reporters said crews have been fighting the fire for hours with three fire boats spraying water onto the ship.

Fire officials said they don't know how long it'll take to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were reportedly able to keep the fire from spreading, and booms were placed to help minimize potential environmental impacts to the waterway.

"Our biggest concern right now is the Aleutian Falcon at this point. It does have reportedly approximately 48,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard. If it does go down or roll over then we will definitely have a possibility of a large fuel spill," Tacoma Assistant Fire Chief Alex Wilsie said.

No injuries have been reported so far, and there are no evacuation orders are in place at this time. Fire officials said people living in the area should stay inside their homes to avoid smoke conditions.
