Gambling. Drugs. Excessive drinking. No matter where you live, these are all vices many people face every day.

WalletHub recently released a study comparing each state to determine which are the most "sinful." While you may be able to guess which state was named number 1 (hello, home of the infamous Sin City), the rest of the list may come as a surprise.

So where did South Carolina rank on the list?

Number 8

As it turns out, the Palmetto State ranks high in terms of anger, hatred, and jealousy. The state also ranks fourth overall for most thefts per capita. On the bright side, South Carolina in the bottom half of the list when it comes to vanity.

The 10 most sinful states, according to the study, are as followed:

  1. Nevada
  2. California
  3. Texas
  4. Georgia
  5. Florida
  6. Louisiana
  7. Tennessee
  8. South Carolina
  9. Illinois
  10. Mississippi

To determine the list, WalletHub compared each state using seven factors: anger and hatred, jealousy, excesses and vices, greed, lust, vanity, and laziness. These factors were then evaluated using 47 relevant metrics, including: violent crimes per capita, bullying rate, number of mass shootings, thefts per capita, share of obese adults, excessive drinking, drug overdose deaths, casinos per capita, teen birth rate, beauty salons per capita, high school graduation rate, and more.
