Toro has issued a nationwide recall for the Toro Power Max Snowthrowers due to the risk of amputation. The issue is with the auger, the rotating corkscrew that churns the snow and forces it through the discharge chute.
Toro said that the lever meant to disengage the auger can fail, which will cause it to continue to spin. The company has received five reports about the problem. There have been no reports of injury or amputation due to the issue.
The company said that 6,700 snow blowers with model number 37802 are part of the recall. The snow blowers were manufactured in Juarez, Mexico, and sold at Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Toro dealers across the country for $1,200. Toro told customers they should stop using them immediately. The company said they can bring the snow blower to an authorized dealer, where it will be repaired free of charge.
