Ten people who were stranded on ice floes in Lake Erie in Cleveland, Ohio, have been rescued, officials confirmed.
The U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes division and responders from other local agencies — plus an Air Station Detroit helicopter dispatched for air support — rescued seven adults and three children who were stranded on two separate ice floes. It happened near Edgewater Park, the Associated Press reported Sunday (February 21).
The rescue operation isn’t the first.
Last year, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued 46 fishermen stranded on ice floes in the middle of Lake Erie.
The U.S. Coast Guard Great Lakes division announced that the rescue was underway:

Earlier that weekend, the National Weather Service in Cleveland warned of dangerous ice conditions:
“Dangerous ice conditions are developing over the next couple days. It is advised to stay off the ice on Lake Erie as areas of ice could break off from the shore. If you are on the ice and it breaks away from shore, you will become stranded.”
