A former Washington reserve officer is facing charges after officials said he crashed a department vehicle and fought back during his arrest, according to KOMO.
Authorities were called out to the scene of a wreck on Highway 395 north of Pasco Thursday night (February 18), according to Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond. Deputies told Soap Lake police that the vehicle found in a ditch was one of their department cars.
Deputies reportedly found 49-year-old Shane Jones near the ditch with people who were trying to help him get out the car, Sheriff Raymond said. While authorities tried arresting Jones, he allegedly tried letting out a retired K9 but failed, according to officials.

"Sheriff Raymond says he believes the K9 was bought by the Okanagan County Sheriff's Office and is privately owned... Soap Lake Police say the officer had a take-home department vehicle, but was not on official business at the time of the incident," reporters wrote.
A deputy trying to arrest Jones got minor injuries, according to authorities. Jones was not wearing a uniform at the time of the arrest, the sheriff added. Officials said the 49-year-old was also terminated for unauthorized use of the police car, citing agency policy.
Jones was charged on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, DUI and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device. His bail is set at $20,000.
“I am deeply troubled by this now-former reserve officer’s behavior,” Soap Lake Police Chief Ryan Cox said. “This individual violated department policy and the law, and betrayed the public’s trust and our agency standards. Absolutely no one is above the law, especially police officers. The Soap Lake Police Department is treating – and will continue to treat – this serious incident both professionally and transparently.”
