For live music lovers, it has been a long year. Around this time last year, concert-goers had no idea that just a few weeks later the live concert industry would completely shut down due to a global pandemic.

But as case rates improve and a vaccine, Red Rocks Amphitheatre is ready to start planning for the brighter future ahead.

Within a week, the iconic music venue is putting in a proposal for a variance with the state of Colorado.

"You know you'll still be able to see a show and you'll be in the venue, but it's not going to feel the same as it has in the past," Red Rocks spokesman Brian Kitts told CBS4.

Kitts explained Red Rocks concert won't have the general admission arrangement that people have become accustomed to. People can also expect significantly smaller capacities and of course, mask-wearing.

For concert-goers who are still holding onto tickets from shows that were supposed to happen last year, they might never get to put them to use.

"Those tickets are still good if those shows playoff," said Kitts. "The reality is that a number of those won't playoff because we will be at reduced capacity when Red Rocks finally opens."

Because there are currently no state guidelines on capacities for outdoor events, health officials will either have to establish those restrictions or determine on a case by case basis.
