After spending hours yelling for help, a driver who plunged off Red Mountain Pass in southern Colorado was finally rescued, reports CBS4.

The man and the vehicle fell hundreds of feet below the road on the morning of Thursday, February 25. The pass, also known as U.S. 550, was shut down while teams went to rescue the man.

The Ouray County Sheriff's Office took to Facebook to explain the events leading up to the rescue mission.

"A male motorist and his vehicle plunged over the cliff on Red Mountain Pass early this morning and the road was closed for a period of time today while rescue operations were ongoing," reads the post. "In what had to have been a grueling and terrifying event, the passenger spent hours yelling for help while he and his vehicle lay in the river hundreds of feet below the road. Luckily our local CDOT driver, Dack Klein, came across the debris field and heard the cries for help."

The rescue mission was aided by a slew of departments including the Ouray Volunteer Fire Department, Moutain Rescue Team, Colorado State Patrol, Ouray County Emergency Medical Services, Ouray Police Department, and more.

CBS4 reports the driver was transported to Fellin Park where the Care Flight of Monstrole took him to Montrose hospital.
