One county in Arizona is now administering the COVID-19 vaccination to jail inmates, reported FOX 10 Phoenix.
The Cococino County sheriff's officials said on February 25th that COVID-19 vaccinations are now being given to jail inmates.
The county's Detention Medical Unit completed training from the Arizona Department of Health Services, which certifies the sheriff's office medical staff to administer the shots.
The jail is taking other steps to keeping inmates healthy as well. All new inmates have to quarantine for two weeks after arriving.
Those who test negative after their quarantine will be placed in the general inmate population. Those that test positive are moved to the medical unit and treated.
Sheriff's officials said that so far, 180 inmates and 35 staff members have tested positive for the virus.

Officials said that all inmates at the county jail are considered "high risk" for contracting the coronavirus since they are housed in such close quarters.
The vaccines will be entered into the statewide Immunization Information System.
