Luke Bryan cast a bold prediction for a Cleveland woman who auditioned for American Idol.

Mary Jo Young, 19, has churned out viral TikTok videos during the COVID-19 pandemic, covering popular fan favorites like “Riptide” by Vance Joy, “Supermarket Flowers” by Ed Sheeran and “When We Were Young” by Adele, among plenty others.

But before that, she was too shy to perform in front of anyone.

On Sunday (February 28), American Idol fans got to see Young audition for the competition show in front of Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

After auditioning with “You Broke Me First” by Tate McRae, the celeb judge panel asked for an encore — with Young’s mom in the room.

Young’s mom, Elizabeth, initially waited on the other side of the door with host Ryan Seacrest.

But when the judges learned she’d “never really sung in front of my mom,” they thought it was time to make a change.

“No better time than now,” Perry said.

Young sang again to her mother, who beamed as she listened to her daughter sing for the first time in person.

“So, that’s my voice, mom,” Young said as she finished singing.

She clearly garnered praise from the panel, but Bryan was the one to cast a bold prediction for the season:

“Top 10, I think,” the country star said.
