It's possible that Progressive Field will get to open at full capacity this season, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
But “it depends on how many people get vaccinated,” Gov. Mike DeWine said.
DeWine spoke Friday (March 5), delivering updates on COVID-19 in Ohio, according to WKYC.
It’s possible that by the Fourth of July, the Cleveland Indians could jump from 30% capacity at Progressive Field to 100%, DeWine indicated.
"I've described Opening Day in Cleveland — Indians at 30 percent capacity, but we could be moving away from that by May 1," DeWine said. "I would hope by the time we get to July 4, we might be full capacity."
He also expressed in a tweet on Thursday (March 4) that the state determined a new benchmark to determine when officials can lift health orders.
“When Ohio gets down to 50 cases per 100,000 people for two weeks, all health orders will come off,” the governor said. “Cases per 100,000 people for a two-week period is a standard measure we have used since early in the pandemic.”
Until then, the Cleveland Indians teamed up with the Cleveland Clinic to ensure health guidance at Progressive Field.
“Providing health and safety recommendations is an important step we can take to help keep our community safer as we work to resume activities we enjoyed pre-pandemic,” said James Merlino, M.D., Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Cleveland Clinic. “We are proud to advise the Cleveland Indians on implementing public health measures, which continue to be important during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
