A Las Vegas couple is suing a popular home makeover show after seeing shoddy results, reported KNTV 13 Las Vegas.
Paul and Mindy King, two Vegas homeowners, are suing Property Brothers on HGTV after their home was made over poorly.
The couple stated that they were excited to go on the show initially. Mindy said, "They had told us that they wanted us to be their first episode. So we instantly started doing whatever steps we needed to do."
The couple paid $193,000 up front and wired the money directly to Cineflix, the production company behind the show.
The lawsuit is against Cineflix and Villa Construction, the contractor in charge of the work on their home. The lawsuit does not name Jonathan and Drew Scott in the case.
Mindy said that the couple was told that everything would be completed to "perfect HGTV quality." But that's far from what they experienced.
After KNTV 13 toured the couple's home, they found many mistakes.
Mindy explained that the backsplash was different, the baseboards were very uneven with one side being visibly higher than the other, and the electrical work wasn't completed correctly. According to a licensed electrician, the electrical work isn't completed up to code either. There is also a long list of other problems with the work done on the home.
After reaching out to Jonathan Scott's lawyer KNTV received a response.
"The property Brothers ("Brothers") are not named defendants in Paula and Mindy King's (the "Kings") lawsuit initiated against Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc. and Villa Construction, nor are they responsible for the Kings' alleged claims. The Kings have rejected Cineflix (Property Brothers 7) Inc.'s and Villa's reasonable attempts to remedy the remaining punch list items in the Kings' home. Instead, in what appears to be an attempt to secure a substantial monetary settlement, the Kings have engaged in a negative publicity campaign against the Brothers. It is unfortunate that the Kings have resorted to such conduct."
