A Nashville food pantry received a big surprise from The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday (March 8). The Little Pantry That Could was one of several organizations to receive a hefty donation from Amazon.
The Little Pantry That Could, founded after the 2010 floods, is a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and those in need in Nashville. According to FOX 17, the pantry serves between 250 and 300 families each weekend with the food pantry, but their work reaches far beyond food assistance.
"We've been able to start from the ground up because maybe somebody needs a job, but they don't have an ID and they don't have an address to use," said owner Stacy Downey.
On Monday, the Downey and the pantry were featured on The Drew Barrymore Show in a segment called "She's Our Queen." The series showcased the work of five groups around the country whose focus ranges from homeless advocacy to supporting women in the technology field.
With the help of actor Jermaine Fowler, of Amazon's Coming 2 America, host Drew Barrymore announced that each organization would receive $10,000 from the retail giant to help continue their work in their communities.
