Following Meghan Markle's interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex's estranged father, Thomas Markle, reacted to his daughter's many revelations about life in the Palace during his own interview with Good Morning Britain. Thomas defended the royal family and explained why he continues talking to the press despite his daughter's wishes.

“I have great respect for the royals, and I don’t think the British royal family are racist at all. I don’t think the British are racist, I think Los Angeles is racist, California is a racist, but I don’t think the Brits are," the former lighting director said, responding to Meghan and Harry revealing a "large part" of their decision to leave the U.K. was the racist treatment Meghan faced both within the palace and in the tabloids.

Thomas also commented on Meghan and Harry's allegation that a member of the royal family inquired about how dark Archie's skin would be when he was born. “The thing about what color will the baby be or how dark will the baby be — I’m guessing and hoping it’s just a dumb question from somebody," he said. "It could be somebody asked a stupid question. Rather than being a total racist."

“This whole thing about color and how dark the baby is, is bulls**t,” he then said, changing course. Thomas then said he thinks the accusation should be investigated.

When asked about Meghan's mental well-being—the Duchess spoke about the deep depression she suffered while pregnant with Archie, which resulted in suicidal thoughts—Thomas claims that had he "known she had psychological problems, I would have been there for her." Thomas then blamed Meghan for being so isolated during that because she “pretty much ghosted” him. “She really had no one to reach out to," he said. Meghan, however, remains close to her mother, Doria Ragland.

Thomas criticized Harry and Meghan for going "way over the top” with their interview. “They should have waited, considering the queen’s age and Philip’s age,” he said.

Meghan's estranged father told the hosts of Good Morning Britain that he will continue giving public interviews about her and Prince Harry until they start talking to him again, explaining that he gives them as a means to convince them to reach out. So far, it doesn't seem like this plan is working.
