Disneyland is setting its sights on an April reopening, announced Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Chapek on Tuesday, March 9.

"Here in California, we're encouraged by the positive trends we're seeing and we're hopeful they'll continue to improve and we'll be able to reopen our Parks to guests with limited capacity by late April," said Chapek in a statement.

Although an exact reopening date has not been decided on yet, Chapek expects one in the coming weeks.

Disneyland and other large theme parks in California have been closed for nearly a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The closure would likely have lasted longer, but lawmakers have been pushing to relax restrictions and requirements on the reopening of large theme parks in the state.

The state decided to relax its restrictions for when theme parks could welcome back guests on Friday, March 5, reports KTLA5.

The new plan allows theme parks to open at limited capacity starting April 1. However, the parks' respective counties must meet the state's standards.

Counties in the red tier can reopen their theme parks with 15% capacity. In the less-restrictive orange tier, the maximum capacity jumps to 25%.

Orange County, which is home to Disneyland, remains in the most-restrictive purple tier.
