Buildings Against Sky

The Phoenix metro area has seen a boom over the last several years, and it isn't slowing down.

Fox 10 Phoenix reported that Buckeye and Phoenix are some of the fastest-growing cities in America. Buckeye hopes to possibly triple the number of residents in the next 10 to 20 years.

It's clear that not just cities are planning ahead for growth, but federal agencies are too.

Phoenix is seeing new skyscrapers in other areas. Instead of just building the city up, they're building it out as well.

Much of the population increase comes as Californians are moving into the state.

Buckeye Principal Planner Adam Copeland said that the sound of hammers and nail guns will continue for a while because of the growth. "We probably have well over 10 to 15 active home builders in Buckeye right now," he said.

Phoenix Planning and Development Director Alan Stephenson said that Phoenix is prepared for the population increase. He said, "We've been planning for this kind of growth for a number of years."

The cities are looking at traffic and transit options as some of the roads cannot expand and accommodate for the increase.

Stephenson explained, "A good amount of how you balance the existing residents and their desires with new ones coming in. You've got to make that happen by making sure you're planning for adequate growth and funding to make things happen."

Copland said that Buckeye is expected to have an increase in grocery stores, shops, and fast food restaurants.
