The new mass COVID-19 vaccination site coming to Lumen Field Event Center is opening this Saturday (March 13), according to KIRO 7.
Gov. Jay Inslee said this hub will be one of the largest civilian-led vaccine sites in the nation. Swedish Health Services and First & Goal Inc. are collaborating with the city on this site.
Officials initially said 5,000 doses would be given a week, but now as many as 150,000 people each week, or 22,000 per day, could be vaccinated at full capacity -- supply permitting, according to reporters.
Eligible residents in the Black, Indigenous and people of color communities will be prioritized, according to Public Health - Seattle & King County director Patty Hayes. “Our communities of color have been getting sick and dying from COVID significantly higher than the white community,” she said.
Eligible residents in King County can get vaccinated once those groups are done, reporters learned. Free parking will also be available in the Lumen Field garage.
"There are five lines for vaccinations with dozens of stations spread throughout the event center to keep operations orderly," KIRO 7 wrote. Hundreds of people will man the site through four shifts a day."
You can sign up for a notification list, which email you appointments as they become available at the city-led vaccination sites, including Lumen Field. The other city-operated vaccination sites are in Rainier Beach and West Seattle.
