After a year of canceled events and breaks in tradition, Nashville now has a celebration to look forward to this summer. Mayor John Cooper announced Friday (March 12) that the city is planning on holding its annual Fourth of July celebration this year, FOX 17 reports, complete with fireworks and live music.

"I'm pleased to announce that my Office is working with the Convention and Visitors Corporation to plan this year's Fourth of July celebration with fireworks and live music," Mayor Cooper said in a statement.

Cooper said the ongoing vaccination efforts in the city influenced his decision to bring the celebration back, after it was canceled in 2020.

"Our vaccine program has gone very well," he said. "Several more months of this same success and growing availability of the vaccine will help us prepare for a safe and successful summer hospitality season."

According to FOX 17, Nashville's annual "Let Freedom Sing" celebration typically brings in large crowds and millions of dollars in visitor spending. In 2019, the event brought in $10.8 million for the city.

According to News Channel 5, country superstar Brad Paisley will headline the show downtown. Additional performers will be announced closer to the actual event.

"I'm thrilled that Nashville's Fourth of July event, one of the best anywhere in the U.S., will be live and in-person," Cooper's statement concluded.
