Here's Why Michigan's Newest Sports Bar Won't Serve Alcohol
March 15, 2021
It has everything a sports bar needs: wings, games, TVs to keep up with your favorite teams and more.
But it left out one staple that other sports bars always have: alcohol.
That’s right.
Sports fans won’t be ordering a cold beer with their food at the first sober bar in Michigan.
“This restaurant provides delicious food, drinks, and a fun and sober atmosphere,” the restaurant’s Facebook page reads. “We have wings, fish, burgers, and more; all for reasonable prices! Come and check us out!"
Wing Heaven Sports Haven is opening Monday (March 15) in Lansing, the Lansing State Journal reported last week. It’ll start with carry out, though games and TVs are available while food is being prepared. On its first day in business, the restaurant is open until 11 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the restaurant.

Co-owner Teresa Stokes said it’s about having something that everyone can go to, describing the vibe of the restaurant as similar to Buffalo Wild Wings (minus the booze, of course).
"When you are on probation or anything, you can't even go to Applebee's because they serve alcohol," Stokes, who owns Pinnacle Recovery Services, told the State Journal. "But you still need somewhere to go and have social engagement other than AA or NA meetings."
Stokes and co-owner Ayanna Ballard also aim to provide employment opportunities for people in recovery, according to WKAR.
"It's somewhere to go and not worry about the next table ordering a drink," Stokes continued to the State Journal. "They can come here and watch a game, shoot pool or play air hockey. It's the same environment as a bar, minus the alcohol."
